Muraca S.r.l. was established in 1983 and is based in Cicala, a small mountain town in the province of Catanzaro, Calabria. The farm where Muraca S.r.l. is based is not far from the Sila National Park. In the totality of uncontaminated nature, the farm is surrounded by greenery and ancient chestnut trees.
Chestnut trees are an extremely important resource in the south of Italy. Ferdinando Muraca took advantage of these woody plants and began the marketing of chestnuts.
Ferdinando shared his passion for his work with his five children, teaching them honesty, professionalism and sharing with them his vast experience. Over the years this has led to the continuation of hard and intense labour, and increased processing of large quantities of chestnuts.
As a result, in 1983, the idea was born to give life to a company and to extend those entrepreneurial skills not only to the processing of chestnuts but also to fruit & vegetable products, with the rich, genuine and healthy fruit and vegetable that Calabria has to offer.
In July 2007 following a corporate reorganization, the first Brothers Muraca Snc, took place and renamed Muraca S.r.l.
Thus, the company was founded as a company operating in the field of processing and transformation of chestnuts and extended into a company whom specialize in processing, manufacturing and marketing of a variety of food products. Muraca S.r.l has recently expanded their product range to homemade bronze extruded pasta and 100% Italian extra virgin and pure oil.
The farm area is about 3000 square meters and includes two different structures, one used as office space and the other, the largest, divided into two floors, is allocated to the various types of work which now take place within the establishment. The lower floor is used for the processing of chestnuts, with modern equipment and technology. The upper floor is where the production and processing of fruit and vegetable products takes place, on this floor there is also an internal laboratory.
During the seasonal period, which begins in late September and concludes with the Christmas period in December, the Muraca Srl manufacture on average 3,000 tonnes of chestnuts, which arrive at the farm fresh ready to be packaged and either marketed fresh, dried (known as "PASTILLI") or transformed into delicious flour.
The processing of fruit and vegetables now exceeds over 600 tons of fresh vegetables. In Co-operation with Calabrian farmers we work hard to find the best method of cultivation and field controls ensuring our product quality is never compromised.
Thanks to this collaboration, Muraca Srl has been able both to improve the quality their products and penetrate the market, nationally and internationally. In fact, adapting its production to all health standards in different countries, today the company is able to export beyond national borders in Australia, Canada, USA, Brazil, Venezuela, Japan and some European countries such as France, England, Austria, Germany.
